今学期聴きに行ったコンサート等の記録をまとめてみました。

数はかなり行ったなあと思いますが、コンサートの７割が友達のリサイタルで、あまりチケット代はかかっていませんでした。今期は沢山オペラを観に行けてよかったです。写真はオーケストラライブラリアンとして名前の載った今年のマネスオーケストラのプログラムです。

I went to more concerts than the last semester, but the cost for tickets was not so bad because most of the concerts were friend's recital which is admission free. I am glad that I was able to go to see more operas than last year. The programs in the picture are Mannes Orchestra's which my name is on as an orchestra librarian.

夏休み

先日、ようやく今学期最後のコンサートが終わって一昨日あたりからようやく今学期が終わったんだなとほっとし始めました。

コンサートは、全曲書き下ろしの新曲コーラスコンサートで去年も書いて歌わせてもらったコンサートです。学校が終わると同時にリハーサルが佳境に入り、また友達とも毎日のように会っていたので学校が終わっても良い意味でまだ気持ちが切れませんでした。これから長いなつやすみがいよいよ始まるのだと思うとちゃんと準備をして６月を迎えたい気分です。

今はというと引越を考えて家探し中です。

I had the last concert for this school year the other day and am relaxed now. The concert is a contemporary chorus concert which performed mostly new pieces all wrote by choir members. I wrote a new piece and sung in the concert as well as I did last year. Because of the rehearsals for the concert, I met my friends almost every day and did not feel like the school is already over. I think I should now think about the plan for this summer break before June is coming. For now I am focusing on finding a new apartment to move in.

嬉しい報告があります。

今日はマネスの卒業式があり、同じ年に来たマスターの友達は皆卒業するのでお祝いに式に行ってきました。卒業式は教会で行われて、学長挨拶・卒業証書授与・卒業生代表挨拶、と日本の卒業式と同じように進んでいくのですが、それに加えて授賞式というのがあります。音楽史賞や演奏賞など色々あって、卒業生・在校生問わずその場で発表されて表彰されるのですが、その中のマルティヌー作曲賞を頂きました。

この賞はオーケストラライティングを対象としたコンペティションによるもので、私も昨年演奏してもらったオーケストラ曲を補筆したものを提出していました。マネスの４つの作曲賞のうちでこの賞だけは演奏が伴わないのですが、審査にはマネスの作曲の先生ほぼ全員が関わるので、一番とりたかった賞でもあります。頂けて本当に光栄です。

幸運にもマネスでのコンペのチャンスを全て頂く事ができたんだなあと思います。感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。

I have a good news. I went to the graduation ceremony today to celebrate my friends's graduation. The order of the graduation ceremony is almost the same as Japanese one except for its presentation of awards and honors. There are 16 awards such as Music History Award, Performance Award, or Opera Award so on, to be given to either graduates or current students. Most of the awards were announced at the point of graduate ceremony, so nobody knows the result until then. I was awarded Martinu Composition Award. This is one of the four competitions held by Mannes composition department and is about orchestra writing. I submitted my orchestra score which I had revised during the jury week. This Martinu award is the only one of the four awards which does not have a performance opportunity as a supplementary prize, but this award means a lot to me because it is judged by the committee formed by all the Mannes composition faculties. I am very happy and honored to fortunately have won all the Mannes composition competitions finally.

The end of 2nd school year

ようやくさっき最後のレポートをメールで送って、2011年のクラスがついに終わりました。。。最後の一週間は何かと予定がぎりぎりになって、毎日睡眠３〜４時間で課題の提出を間に合わせる繰り返しだったのですがなんとか持ちこたえられてよかったです。時間がなくて焦った時ほど思い切った優先順位の見直しが大切だな〜と思い知りました。

昨年度セメスターを乗り切ることの大変さと終わってしまった時のあっけなさを学んだので、今年は忙しくても友達との時間や演奏活動も大切にしたくて、結果的にはまあまあがんばれたかなと思います。体調を大きく崩すこともなく学校での２年目を終えられて嬉しいです。

I just submitted my final assignment to my teacher via email. Although the classes were already over yesterday, I feel my semester has finally ended now. To made the deadline for several final assignments, I had been shortening my sleeping hours than usual these days. I learned how it is important to decide what is the bottom line for each things that I need to do.

My goal for this semester was to make the most of my time, not only of the classes but also with my friends and for my musical activities. I decided this because I learned that a semester is hard to survive and also ends suddenly last year. I think I did good job for my goal. I am glad that I was able to finish my second school year safely.

おひさしぶりです

ご無沙汰しています。こんなに書いていなかったとはなんてことでしょうか。。

学校もついにあと１週間となりました。最近あったニュースを振り返ってみます。

・CIRCEコンサート

先週水曜日にCIRCE（Composer-in-Residence-Chamber-Concert)コンサートがあり、新曲の室内楽曲を演奏してもらいました。タイトルは"Before Dawn（夜明け前）"、編成はオーボエ、クラリネット、バスーン、マリンバ、ビオラ、チェロです。学内コンペで選んでもらってこのコンサートの為に新曲を書いたので、演奏者も学校が探してくれました。室内楽アンサンブルとしては今まで書いた中で一番大きな編成で、リハーサルの面でも、曲を書く面でも、演奏してもらってこそいろいろ勉強になりました。

・Ear Training

先週木曜日に、ついに２年間とりつづけたEar Trainingの授業が他のクラスに１週間先駆けて終わりました！楽譜を読むための基礎的な技能を高めるためにひたすら課題をこなしていく授業で、毎週パフォーマンスがあるようで気が抜けませんでした。来年はもうとらなくていいので、ほっとするのと少し寂しいのと両方です。

・ウェブサイト

大学時代共に作曲を学び、今ノットニル・クリエイティブを主催するWebクリエイターの菱川拓郎氏がウェブサイトを作ってくれました。数ヶ月前に「すこしおしゃれで、曲の音源も視聴できるサイトを作って欲しい！」とお願いしたらすぐにデザイン案を提案してくれて、スムーズなやりとりを経てつい先日公開に至りました。ウェブサイトの構築を細やかにサポートもしてもらえてとても快適です。よければぜひのぞいてみてください。

I was surprised to know how long it has been since I wrote this blog last time.. There is only one week left for this school year. I am going to look back some news these days.

CIRCE Concert : My new chamber music, "Before Dawn" was premiered at CIRCE (Composer-in-Residence-Chamber-Ensemble) concert last Wednesday. I was chosen to write a new chamber piece for this concert last year by winning one of a school competitions. So I wrote a piece for Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Marimba, Viola, and Cello. Although it was the biggest chamber ensemble I have ever written for, I did not have to worry about finding performers by myself ; school found me players from the Mannes Orchestra. I learned a lot from this performance opportunity, I was able to get useful feedbacks from my performers and the audience.

Ear Training : Finally I have done with "Ear Training" class last Thursday ahead of other classes . I do not have to take this course anymore after four semesters of classes. We had to prepare singing, reading, and playing several ear training materials every week. Although I might miss this class in the future, I am really relieved now.

Website : My friend Mr.Takuro Hishikawa, a web creator who leads the web designing company notnil creative created a web site for me. With his professional skills and careful customer service, I was able to launch my website very quickly and comfortably.
